There are two reading rooms: one for manuscripts and rare materials, and one for ancient and modern printed materials.
Bibliographic assistance on site: during the opening hours of the reading rooms
The reading rooms will be closed to the public for two weeks in August to allow for review, reorganisation, preventive measures, conservation, and restoration work, as provided for in Articles 28 and 57 of Presidential Decree 417/1995, Regulations Governing State Public Libraries. During this period, from Monday to Friday, the Library will remain open from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon for the direct loan service only. For details of the specific weeks of closure, please consult the notices published periodically in the ‘Notices’ section of this website.
Between 17 and 31 July, the direct loan service will be suspended in order to carry out the revision work provided for in Article 57 of Presidential Decree 417/1995, Regulations Governing State Public Libraries.
On 24 and 31 December, the reading rooms will be open from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

In the Manuscripts and Rare Books Room, readers may consult printed works with the following shelfmarks: Aldine, Incunaboli, Rari, Rari Ven, and Ex-strenne. Both these materials and manuscripts may also be requested through the Polo OPAC.
The Library is located in the former Mint of the Venetian Republic, Piazzetta San Marco 7. The building now houses the reading rooms and also includes the adjacent Palazzo della Libreria (Piazzetta San Marco 13), the historic seat of the ancient Public Library of St Mark, as well as the Ridotti dei Procuratori, which now form part of the museum area open to visitors and used for exhibitions and events.
