Direct loan
Please note
The loan period is 30 days and may be renewed once for a further 30 days, unless the item has been requested or reserved by another user. Users who fail to return borrowed items within the prescribed time limit may be temporarily suspended from the service.
Books printed up to and including 1950, as well as other categories listed under Items excluded from loan, are not available for loan.
Registered users may reserve books and collect them after 11.00 a.m. on the following day, in accordance with the relevant OPAC request instructions.
A maximum of four volumes at a time, corresponding to no more than two works, may be borrowed. Reserved books will be held from 11.00 a.m. on the day following the request and for the subsequent three days.
Eligibility for direct loan
Direct loan (formerly referred to as “local loan”) is available to residents of the Veneto Region and, for limited periods and under certain conditions, also to non-residents aged 18 or over.
1. Residents of the Veneto
- a) Valid identity document (driving licence, passport, identity card)
2. Residents of Italy, Vatican City, the Republic of San Marino, and European Union Member States
- a) Valid identity document
- b) Proof of residence in the Veneto Region.
- c) Documentation demonstrating the need for study, research, or work.
(For students enrolled at universities in the Veneto, a university card and proof of payment of current academic fees are sufficient.)
3. Residents of non-EU countries
- a) (See requirements under point 2.)
- b) A residence permit issued by a police headquarters in the Veneto Region.
The permit is valid for one year from the date of issue, unless the submitted documentation covers a shorter period.

Interlibrary Loan Service ILL – DD
For requests for materials, please contact the Direct Loan Office.
To collect requested materials, please contact the librarian in the Reading Room.
The Interlibrary Loan service enables the Library’s users to obtain monographs and reproductions of documents not held by the Library. It also supplies other libraries—both in Italy and abroad—with monographs, periodicals, and reproductions of materials held by the Library.
The service is available both to users who visit the Library in person to request materials not available on site and to remote users, including public and private libraries in Italy and abroad.
Shipping and reproduction costs are borne by the user. Registration requirements are the same as for direct loan; users registered for direct loan are also eligible for interlibrary loan.

Materials excluded
Materials excluded from loan
Pursuant to Article 54 of the General Regulations for State Public Libraries (Presidential Decree No. 417 of 5 July 1995), the following materials are generally excluded from loan in their original form:
- a) Materials subject to legal restrictions;
- b) Materials subject to special protection measures;
- c) Materials in a poor state of conservation;
- d) Periodicals, both in loose issues and in bound volumes;
- e) Miscellanies bound volumes;
- f) Works intended for general consultation (including dictionaries, encyclopaedias, bibliographic and catalogue repertories), or considered of particular bibliographic relevance in relation to the specificity and integrity of the collections.
In this Library, exclusion from loan may also be determined by the donor’s provisions (letter a above), as in the case of the Tursi Collection, the Prandi Collection, and the Selz Collection.
The following location groups are excluded from loan as they are subject to special protection measures (letter b above):

All periodicals and newspapers are excluded from loan (letter d).
Works marked Misc. 1- 4307 and Dramm. (or Comm.), as well as all miscellanies bound in volumes, are are excluded from loan (letter e).
The following categories and locations are excluded from loan (letter f):
- Manuscripts
- Printed books published up to the year 1950
- Typescripts
- Official gazettes, Lex, Collections of laws and decrees
- Shelfmarks: LEO D, LEO E, LEO F, LEO G, MOSTRE, Banco, Facsimili, Cont. 1039 (La laguna di Venezia), due to large format
- Shelfmark: Diamante, due to very small format
- Shelfmarks: Cont. 1, 868, Coll. 110, 132, 473, 622.6, 848, 862,891, 923, 933, 1182, 1222,1398, 1505, as these materials are held in consultation rooms.
