User registration in the Polo VEA OPAC
Users who already hold a valid Library card may register via the PoloVEA OPAC home page:
- Go to the PoloVEA OPAC website.
- Click on “My library account” in the top right-hand corner to access the authentication page.
If this is your first login, enter the following credentials:
- Username: your library card number (e.g. BM123, QS123, or 123 — without leading zeros).
- Password: your date of birth in the following format: 21/11/2011.
You may then change your password by following the on-screen instructions. The new password must contain at least eight characters, including both letters and numbers.
Users affiliated with Ca’ Foscari University or IUAV must always use their institutional credentials in the appropriate authentication fields.
After logging in, click on your name in the top right-hand corner to access your personal area. From there, you can submit, view, and cancel your requests and other transactions.
Users who are not yet registered may complete their first registration via the PoloVEA OPAC home page:
- Click on “My library account” in the top right-hand corner. Select “Not registered yet?”
Complete the registration form in full and select Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana from the drop-down menu. Once registration is complete, you will be able to book services online.
Requesting documents for consultation via OPAC
To request a document via the OPAC:
- Go to the PoloVEA OPAC website:
- Click on “My library account” in the top right-hand corner to authenticate.
Once you have located the document you wish to consult, select one of the following options:
- Loan request (for all documents in open circulation, even if you intend to consult them on site; this intention may be specified to staff at the distribution desk the following day);
or
- Consultation request (for documents available for in-library use only, such as books published before 1951).
After logging in, click on your name in the top right-hand corner to access your personal area, where you can view your loan status, including requests, reservations, due dates, and messages.
Users may have up to ten volumes on loan at any one time. Requested books will be available from 9.30 a.m. on the day following submission of the request and will be held for three days.
Requests for consultation in the Manuscripts Room
In the Manuscripts and Rare Books Room, readers may consult printed works with the following locations: Aldines, Incunabula, Rare Books, Rare Venetian Books, and Ex-strenne, as well as manuscripts. These materials must be reserved exclusively through the PoloVEA OPAC.
Readers who already know the shelfmarks of the manuscripts they wish to consult may send them by email to: b-marc.manoscritti@cultura.gov.it.
Readers are advised to consult the online catalogues in advance, as well as the list of digitised materials available under the Digital Library section. Requests may also be submitted on site.
Requesting documents on loan via OPAC
- Go to the PoloVEA OPAC website.
- Click on “My Library Account” in the top right-hand corner to authenticate.
Once you have located the desired volume in the OPAC, select:
- Loan request (for all documents in open circulation).
After logging in, click on your name in the top right-hand corner to access your personal area, where you can check the status of your loans (requests, reservations, due dates, etc.) and cancel any pending transactions. Requested books will be available from 9.30 a.m. on the day following submission of the request and will be held for three days.
A maximum of four volumes may be borrowed at a time, corresponding to no more than two works; the books will be available from 11.00 a.m. on the day following submission of the request and will be held for three days.
If a work cannot be borrowed, the user will be notified promptly by email or via a message in their OPAC personal area.
Users are therefore advised to check for any messages before collecting their books.
Access reservation (optional – required only for direct loans)
To make a reservation:
- Go to the PoloVEA OPAC website.
- Click on “My Library Account” in the top right-hand corner to authenticate.
- Click on your name in the top right-hand corner to access your personal area.
- Open the Reservations section and select the Library and Service from the drop-down menu.
- Select your preferred date and time.
